FIniSHing…a continuous process

The problem with finishing, as mentioned in the last post in this series, is that life is not DONE until…well, until it’s done.  Even then, if you’re a believer…eternity is a good thing.  But, here we’re talking about our life here on Earth.

We are finally getting started!

Have you ever heard someone talk about renovating/remodeling their house?  It’s a constant process.  “Now that we’ve painted the walls that color, I’ll need new drapes to match.  Oh my, now our furniture looks so outdated!  That carpet would look great in there!”  Or “Now that we’ve opened up that space; wouldn’t that one look better if it were opened up too?”  So it goes…continuing until the family has all moved out, which spurs more home improvement projects.  It never ends!

Philippians 3:14 says that we should press toward the goal (finish line).  Paul says in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight.  I have finished the race.”  Luke 14: 28 & 29 admonishes us to count the cost…make sure you can finish before you start.  Seems that finishing is very important according to the Bible.

On a personal note, I have always struggled with finishing.  My sewing projects are completed to the point of functionality; then I have a hard time getting back to finishing the seams or hems.  I’ll fix a broken door hinge or a patch a hole in the wall, but never seem to find time to repaint  it so it matches everything else.  You’d shudder if you knew how many “drafts” of half-finished articles I have saved in the backend of this site!

There! It's done!

Keeping all this in mind, we’ve recently embarked on a painting project in our home.  What began as a way to boost morale around here, quickly turned into an artistic endeavor that seemingly will never end.  Yesterday we finished the trim and touch ups.  Today, we decided to add a few embellishments.  It’s hard to draw that line!

Wait...let's just add a few more things!

Fortunately, we’re given every opportunity to finish on a good note with God.  But, when it’s over, it’s over.  There will be no turning back for a “do over”.  So…

Let us not become weary in doing good “  as Galatians 6:9 puts it “for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

wallbeckyThere’s the key…the point I’m trying to make.  We will reap a harvest, in His time, if we don’t give up!  Don’t give up!  Finish the race!

Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness! (Matthew 25:23)

The prize is so worth it!
