Leah’s Angels

For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee. Luke 4:10

I have a real-life story that is just too good not to share with you all. It happened this morning.
Hannah & Julia became proud parents of Leah (a black hamster) and Norton (a tan-colored hamster) a few weeks ago. They each have their own cage (the hamsters, not my daughters) perched on top of a tall chest of drawers in the room that my daughters share; where they can see each other, but not live with each other since Leah (Julia’s hamster) is a girl and Norton (Hannah’s hamster) is a boy! ‘Nuff said’!

This morning we had all settled into our daily routine when Julia wandered over to the cages to say “Good Morning!” Leah was gone!

Since we had owned a hamster before, the kids all kicked into the familiar procedure of searching…under the stove, behind the dresser, turning over furniture, etc. Surprisingly, no one seemed to be in panic mode…a welcome change of atmosphere around here. I started thinking that if we don’t find her, at least the smell will lead us to her later and she can be properly disposed of. Shhh! Don’t tell the kids. LOL!!missinghamster

While the search ensued, Becky sneakily put a ceramic piggy bank in the cage and yelled, “I found her!” Brief pause, quick chuckle…on with the search.

Julia meanwhile, was laying down little pieces of pancake from the morning’s breakfast for Leah to “sniff out” and go home. Little did she realize, our dog Gracey was right behind her eating them up as fast as they were being laid down. LOL!!

Trying to let the kids down easy I replied, “No…wait…maybe.” Leah raised one little paw. “Well…she’s alive, but probably not for long.”

As if to make a liar out of me, she turned her fat little body over in one movement and slowly walked away. A few more minutes of scattering all of the “stuff” that was “stored” under my desk…Leah was captured (with thickly gloved hands) and returned to her home.

Leah is returned…still a little skittish.  Maybe she should have read the verse I quoted at the beginning of this story.missinghamster_foundmissinghamster_found2 Her “angels” are my daughters.  They are there for her protection.  God will not always protect us if we run headlong, recklessly into harms way, not heeding the warnings, but in Leah’s case, my daughters did their best to keep her out of trouble.
I was later informed that Leah “falls dead” when scared. I didn’t realize how quickly my kids had become attached to these brand new little additions to our family. All is well in our house now, after an exciting morning!
