Beneficial Spraying?

Becky came in from her run last night…early. “They’re spraying for mosquitoes!” My kids all know that when the trucks are out, they come in. That is nasty stuff! I heard that it’s diesel. Whatever it is, they’re spraying it on my kids, my yard, my pets and my vegetable garden! Isn’t there a better way to prevent West Nile Virus? When we lived in NY, they dropped pellets down into the sewage drains…and anywhere where there was standing water. I think that’s a good idea. At least you can steer your activities away from the poison.
I could be wrong, but I heard somewhere that whatever they’re spraying all over the neighborhood at dusk will kill all the butterflies! Oh sure…kill the mosquitoes, but everything else? I wonder if I should be changing the seed in the feeders that I put out for the birds…hmmm? I also know that bats eat alot of mosquitoes. Couldn’t we just put up a few bat houses around town to take care of the problem? Did anybody look into alternatives?
Well…as usual, I don’t have much information. Comment away. I want to hear what you think…or know about spraying poison on our mosquitoes to prevent west nile. What, if anything, do they spray where you live? Are there other options?
